Studies on Enterococcus faecalis infection in the cultured Clarias gariepinus Fish in Ismailia province

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the Enterococcus faecalis infection in 200 cultured Clarias gariepinus fish samples over one year (March 2019- Febreuary 2020) in Ismailia governorate.The collected fishes were clinically examined; samples were taken from gills, liver, kidney for isolation and identification of bacteria. Clinical examination of naturally infected C. gariepinus displayed hemorrhages, ulcers and macerated muscle on the flank, and redness Clinical examination displayed hemorrhages, ulcers and macerated muscle on flank region, and redness at the base of fins. Post mortem examination revealed enlarged liver, engorged spleen, congested kidney, inflamed heart and distended intestine. Samples were taken from gills, liver, kidney for isolation and identification of Entrococcus feacalis. Morphological and biochemical tests detected infection with Enterococcus faecalis. PCR revealed harboring of EF3314 gene. Total prevalence was (53%). The highest prevalence was recorded in summer (39.6%), while the lowest was recorded in winter (11.32%). Liver was the highest infected organ.
