Abstract
introduction: Diastolic dysfunction is common among patients with chronic kidney disease and should be thoroughly investigated using different methods not to miss a prevalent type of heart failure in those type of patients with kidney disease as cardiovascular complications are the most common among them. LAVI has emerged as an important parameter for assessment of the prevalence and degree of diastolic dysfunction. OBJECTIVES: To assess prevalence and degree of diastolic dysfunction in chronic kidney disease patients using LAVI.METHODS: 160 patients were assigned equally into a study and control groups where clinical data, anthropometric measures, echocardiographic measures, and blood samples were analyzed. RESULTS: there was statistically significant difference between Diastolic dysfunction and LAVI between cases and control groups with all cases with severe LAVI had either moderate or severe diastolic dysfunction (p value>0.001). there was highly statistically significant difference between stage of kidney disease and DD with most of cases with stage 4 and 5 had either moderate or severe diastolic dysfunction (p value>0.001), there was highly statistically significant relation between stage of kidney disease and LAVI with most of cases with stage 4 and 5 had either moderate or severe LAVI (value>0.001).CONCLUSION: LA enlargement is highly associated with the LA dysfunction, resulting in higher LAVI in patients with CKD Stages 3-5.the increased LAVI is highly associated with chronic volume overload due to expansion in intravascular volume in all the stages of CKD.
